What a Lie about an iPhone

Say it ain't so. I am shocked and stunned that some retailer would tell a lie about an iPhone.

Right after the iPhone came out I was looking at upgrading my phone. Now I did end up with the Palm Treo 680.

But a retailer told me all kinds of lies about an iPhone to get me to buy a blackberry (aka crackberry).

Amazon Kindle

The Kindle seems like a great device. People are asking about the same dumb questions and whineing about it.

Let me try to answer some of the questions.

PDF - no it does not support PDF. There is a workaround with mobi creator
Back light - no back light
$400 - yes it is $400 - I am not 100% sure it is overpriced
EvDo (3G) Network - grrrr . yes it is required and as far as I can tell there is no wireless workaround or slower method.
USB - load your books via USB instead of wireless
DRM - yes it does and yes it sucks

IT is not a real computer . . . please remember that. It is an eink reader.

The Treo 680 in TV

I have noted that the Treo 680 is showing up in a variety of Television Shows.

So far Law and Order: Criminal Intent has a Treo 680 on the floor at the start of episode of two.

CSI: New York, has a Treo shown prominently.

I wonder if these are shown because of the iPhone being so popular. And it is well known that Apple does not pay to have the product shown.

Is iTunes Really Better?

You would think that having iTunes would be better than CD. With iTunes Music Store I can buy what I want. I do not have to buy a whole CD. I will confess I bought my share of whole CDs.

I like getting the free short films fromhttp://www2.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif iTunes Music Store. I recently downloaded Hotel Chevalier and there is a song called, Where Do You Go To. I happen to like this song and would like to purchase the song.

However, guess what . . . as of the writing of this post, you can only buy the whole album. That is right, only the whole album.

Come on Apple, let's do this right.

More Free Stuff on iTunes

It is time for televising to start on the new new seasons and of course, iTunes is there.

This year on iTunes, Fox is offering many series premieres and season premieres on iTunes for free. Yes that is right . . . FREE.

IF you think you may want them, you best log on to iTunes quickly and get them quickly. These free episodes usually do not hang around for long.

Firefox and No Ads.

I normally do not advocate this type of adoption. However, every computer user needs to items on their computer. However, everyone needs Firefox. Firefox is a solid web browser.

However, firefox by itself is not enough. You need to have Ad Block Plus to block all the pop ups and all the horrid ads.

I just started using it today. No more dumb dancers. No more flashing ads. No hot babes wanting to date me. No more Viagra ads.

For the record this works like a charm on the Macintosh.

Wow, Apple has hit the charts again. Today's announcement of a new iPod is like wow.

I have to confess, I did not see Apple doing this with the touch iPod. I figure that would kill sales of iPhone.

My bad as I would have bought one.

Should we avoid Circuit City

I read a post about person who was arrested for not showing his papers. This was not in Nazi Germany or the old Soviet Union: this occurred in America in 2007.

The bottom line is that I am afraid that the police are flexing muscles that apparently with the Bush whorehouse feel the ability to trample on a persons' rights.

I see the Bush Whitehouse has managed to abuse America's civil rights so bad that police seem to feel no compunction about violating them.

Treo and Stereo

My new Treo 680 is a great phone, as I have already said, however, there seems to be a problem. I purchased a set of stereo headphones for it that are OEM. These are great headphones. When I am on a phone call, a person is in both ears. So it is talking mono in both ears. However, much more like being in person.

I want to buy a new set of headphones that will allow me listen in steroeo to the speaker on the phone, my pTunes and at the same time be comfeterable and not hurt my ears.

I am thinking of making my own.

NBC and iTunes

As you may have heard, NBC is going to pull content from iTunes Music Store. The area of contention is that NBC wants $4.99 per television show.

At the current price of $1.99 per show, Law and Order comes to about $48 per season. This is about $10 higher then buying and ripping your own from DVD. At the new price a season comes in at a $119.756 for a 24 episode season.

While I a not going to encourage or condone any behavior that may or may not be illegal., why would someone pay $120 for a DRM rich product that is limited. The smaller version (running currently at 640x480) would not be worth it.

The real problem with NBC is that I am sure there are people out there buying the iTunes and then buying the DVD version. Those people will now stop buying from iTunes at the increased rate.

I have bought a NBC show, when I have missed it on TV. However, at $5 + tax, I will wait for reruns.

A Supercomputer in the house . . .

The Microwulf is a computer that almost anyone can build and set it in the house and have a supercomputer on the desktop. With a price tag of $2500 USD this seems like a bargain.

Now the question is how many soccer moms would have the supercomputer so they can write emails, surf the web, or enter in recipieces into a cooking database.

Looking at the Treo

I have now had a Treo for several weeks.

I did not get a iPhone for several reasons.

1. The iPhone does not work in my state.
2. The intial cost
3. The ongoing cost.

Now many people make a big deal out of the ongoing cost of the iPhone. Most of what is said is hoo-heey The iPhone, like all cell phones have a plan. To equal the iPhone plan I would have to spend the same amount of money. Cell phones are not cheap.

however, I love my Treo. I like the extra software. It fits with all my needs. Overall a great phone.

Phone Service

One of the really cool things I have learned recently: a person can transport their home phone to a cell phone.

This means you can take your landline number to a real cell phone and not lost contact and have all the other problems with changing a phone number.

I think the feds did well on this one.

Palm Treo

I purchased a Palm Treo 680 (unlocked) to replace. This thing is great. I am not sure how I survived without one.

How to Handle a Dead Battery

Recently my main battery has died in MacBook. The computer is a little over a year old. The battery has a mere 127 cycles on it. Apple says, a battery will start degrading after 100 cycles. This 127 cycles is the lowest I have ever had on a Macintosh laptop.

So what to do:

1. Stay plugged into the wall. Grrrr
2. Do not drain the battery all the way down. No matter how little you have left.

The good news. Apple has finally built in a 'deep sleep' into the OS. This means that the contents of RAM will be written to the Hard Drive and the contents kept safe.

To wake the computer:
1. Open the lid.
2. Hit the power botton, once.
3. Wait.

All set and ready to go.

Why Electronics Are Bad

My whole life is on my Palm. And it died. Yes I have a recent backup. That is not the problem. I now have to buy a new one.

I have used this one for over 4 years. And now it is dead

Grrrrr.

What this has made me realize is that we are totally dependt on electronics
